Big Shared World’s driving motivation is to inspire more curiosity in the world. We believe that living with curiosity and the desire to learn more about people, places, and concepts is the best way to break down barriers and truly connect. In a time when divisions can feel more powerful than our commonalities, we strive to direct our own curiosity in a way that serves as an entry point for better understanding of others, and ourselves. Ultimately, we aim to be a resource and connecting point for those interested in learning more about diverse human cultures, beliefs, opinions, and lifestyles.
Through Our Minnesota Community activity book, we are proud to be amongst a vast array of Minnesotans, and global citizens, who are doing great work to enhance our global community, in Minnesota and abroad.
We are constantly adding to our list of resources and encourage you to explore the organizations, authors, bookstores, cultural centers, and other materials we’ve compiled.
Minnesota has many organizations and individuals working tirelessly to make the state a more inclusive place for all who call it home. Some organizations focus specifically on educational equity, while others work in areas of immigration, intercultural engagement, and other important topics of advocacy.
Across the country, equity in education is of utmost importance. Many organizations are tackling the disparities head-on, creating resources for educators and parents to better navigate topics such as anti-racism, civic engagement, culturally-responsive teaching, and other essential subjects to address in order to best serve the next generation of Americans.
Empathy Building Books
At Our Minnesota Community, we love books! We believe stories, and the books they live within, are one of the best ways for children (and adults) to learn about life from someone else’s point of view. We are especially fans of stories that are told from someone’s “own voice.” We have books featured in our Educator Guides to encourage greater engagement with the cultures featured in Our Minnesota Community and are constantly adding to our website’s list of recommended reading.
MN Independent Bookstores
Minnesotans are fortunate to have a strong list of independent bookstores! These booksellers and their staffs are the drivers of literary engagement in our community.
MN Cultural Centers and Museums
Experiences can be transformative for children’s learning! Throughout the state, there are endless opportunities for families, groups, and schools to engage in-person with different cultures. This is in addition to an excellent line-up of museums designed for children to learn through hands-on experiences.
We are always excited to learn about new people, places, and things! If you have a recommendation to add to our list of resources, please send us an email at Education@BigSharedWorld.com!
